About Buildings and Collections

The unit is responsible for the management of the National Archives’ storage facilities and for ensuring that the collection of physical archival materials is stored optimally according to current climate and security standards, as well as in terms of inventory control and storage management.

The unit is responsible for storage operations and the transport of archival materials to the reading rooms, as well as for the management of the National Archives’ reading rooms and lending to authorities.

Additionally, the unit is responsible for building operations in the National Archives, including collaboration with the Danish Building and Property Agency (Bygningsstyrelsen) and the operation of public-private partnerships (OPP) for the locations in Copenhagen and Viborg, as well as the operation of the reception in Copenhagen.

Tasks of Buildings and Collections include

  • Operation of the National Archives’ reading rooms in Copenhagen, Viborg, Odense, and Aabenraa.
  • Processing of archival materials for National Archives’ staff, authorities, and users of the reading rooms.
  • Loans to authorities and museums, as well as transport of archival materials to reading rooms and between locations.
  • Conservation and conservation digitization of archival materials and ongoing communication with authorities regarding the preservation of archival considerations.
  • Security issues related to warehouses, archival materials, and reading rooms.
  • Storage management, collection control, error correction in Daisy, and accession.
  • Building operations and collaboration with the Danish Building and Property Agency in this regard.
  • Operation of the National Archives’ public-private partnerships in Viborg and Copenhagen.
  • Operation of the National Archives’ reception and switchboard.
