Recording audio and video in repositories and reading rooms
You can record audio and video in the Danish National Archives’ facilities and repositories.
Create unique recordings at the Danish National Archives
If your video production requires records from the Danish National Archives, you are welcome to come and film them on site. You can also produce podcasts and other types of audio recordings.
The Danish National Archives comprise both state-of-the-art high‑bay storage facilities and historic, atmospheric repositories and reading rooms, allowing you to create exactly the right backdrop for your recording. You can record at all four of the Danish National Archives’ locations across the country.
Our locations
Aabenraa
In Aabenraa, you can record in the reading room, the meeting room, and in the repository.
Copenhagen
In Copenhagen, you can record in our high‑bay storage facility, a smaller repository, or a meeting room. It is not possible to record in the reading room.
Odense
In Odense, you can record in the new reading room, the old reading room, and in the repository.
Viborg
In Viborg, you can record in the reading room and in the historic repository.
Important information
Connection to the Danish National Archives
Recording at the Danish National Archives is only possible if the production features records from the archives or is otherwise directly linked to the Danish National Archives.
Access to experts
Subject specialists and researchers from the Danish National Archives can participate in recordings at no additional cost, provided this has been agreed in advance.
You must secure permissions
If you plan to use material that is not freely accessible, you must ensure that everyone who will be present at the Danish National Archives has applied for and obtained permission to view the material before the recording date.
Prices and conditions
What you pay for
- The time spent on preparation and subsequent clean‑up (minimum 2 hours).
- The time you and the crew spend at the Danish National Archives, as staff are required for supervision. Please note that the price varies depending on the size of the crew present for the recording.
Price (crew of one to four people)
Price per commenced hour:
- 656 DKK excluding VAT.
- 820 DKK including VAT.
After the first hour, billing is per commenced half hour. The price applies to the current calendar year.
Price (crew of more than four people)
Price per commenced hour:
- 1,312 DKK excluding VAT.
- 1,640 DKK including VAT.
After the first hour, billing is per commenced half hour. The price applies to the current calendar year.
For crews larger than four people, the rate is doubled because, for security reasons, the Danish National Archives must assign two staff members to supervise your visit.
Advance payment
If you live outside of Denmark, you must pay in advance.
Access restrictions
Please note that not all records are freely accessible. See more information about access restrictions.
If you wish to use restricted records in your recording, you must apply for permission to view them. Everyone taking part in the recording must have obtained permission to see the records before you submit your booking request.
Placing an order
Once you have submitted your order, you will receive an invoice from the Danish National Archives. The invoice must be paid before the day you are scheduled to visit the Danish National Archives.
