The Danish National Archives (Rigsarkivet) collaborates with various genealogical organizations both in Denmark and abroad.

Museums and archives

Rigsarkivet also collaborates with Danish archives in the Private Archives Committee. Additionally, local archive associations and the Association of Danish Museums are represented in Rigsarkivet’s user council.

Danish Organizations

Danish Genealogists is the country’s largest genealogical society. Members can participate in meetings, lectures, and classes at local branches throughout Denmark.

The society maintains an online forum where members can seek answers, share knowledge about genealogical topics, and seek assistance with tasks such as deciphering old texts.

Danish Genealogists is represented on the National Archives’ user council, including the user council for the online archive service Arkivalieronline. The society collaborates with the National Archives in various areas, including providing volunteer guidance at the Archives’ reading rooms.

International Organizations

Ancestry is an American company offering digital family tree creation services and operates the international database Ancestry Library. Subscribers can access guidance and search for personal information in digitized records from the USA, Europe, Australia, and other countries.

The National Archives exchanges images and transcripts of church records and census data with Ancestry.

FamilySearch is an international genealogy database offering free access to scanned and transcribed archival materials from around the world. Subscribers can create dynamic family trees and participate in indexing archival records.

Over the years, FamilySearch has photographed portions of the National Archives’ collections, providing copies to the Archives in exchange.
